How to use CuteFTP to upload your website
CuteFTP is one of the world's most popular programs to use when uploading websites. It's both easy-to-use and powerful. Follow the tutorial below to learn just how easy it is.

Firstly you will need to install CuteFTP on your computer. If you to not have this program installed I recommend purchasing it.

FTP Server:
  • ftp.domainname.com (example)

User Name:
  • ftp_domainnamecom (example)

Password:
  • Please see your configuration email

Host Directory:
  • /httpdocs/ for normal web pages (http)
  • /httpsdocs/ for secure pages (https)

Home Page File:
  • index.html or index.htm or index.php (lower case)
Attention
  • Where domainname.com replace to your domain name.
  • If you have problems with connecting to your website, Please check and make sure that your local internet settings (Firewall, Anti-Virus, IE Internet Options Security Settings) won't block you from connecting to the server on Port: 21.
  • Unless default file on httpdocs and httpsdocs, Please DO NOT delete ANY directory or files that have been created by the system, otherwise your web site may disappear into cyber oblivion!
  • Please note that the FTP username and passwords are case sensitive.
  • If you failed to login 10 times within 60 minutes, Your IP will be locked for security reasons, Please try next hour again.

Guide

Making a new connection.

1. Open your CuteFTP program.
2. If this is your first time you have opened the program a "Site Manager" box will appear over the body of the program, click "New".
3. Click "FTP Site".

IF you have opened the CuteFTP program previously, click on the little "Icon" in the upper left corner.

You will now be taken to a box to fill in your FTP account details. These will be the FTP details supplied by your webhost.

1. Fill in your "site name".
2. Fill in your "ftp host site address" as supplied by your webhost.
3. Fill in your "username" as supplied by your webhost.
4. Fill in your "password" as supplied by your webhost.
5. Select "Normal".
6. Select "Use PASV" mode.
7. Click "Connect".

The CuteFTP program should now connect you to your hosting account files.

Uploading Files to Your Webhosting Account

Once you have connected to your hosting account via CuteFTP, you can now start to upload your files and web pages.

1. Scroll and find the folder that you have saved your files into.
2. Locate the "httpdocs" folder.
3. Double click the file to upload to your account.

Your uploaded files will now appear in your hosting account on the "Right Half" of the CuteFTP program.

Upload multiple files

1. To upload multiple files, highlight the required files and then select "Tool" at the top toolbar.
2. Scroll down to "Queue".
3. Select "Transfer All".

Downloading Files from Your Webhosting Account to Your Computer

Connect to your account with CuteFTP.

1. On the "Left" half panel of CuteFtp, choose the folder where you want to place the downloaded file.
2. From within the "Right" half panel of Cute FTP. Highlight the desired file you want downloaded.
3. Click on the "Download Icon" from the top toolbar. It is an arrow pointing downwards.
